Raphiolepis indica is a host plant of Erwinia amylovora
Indian hawthorn Raphiolepis indica (Rosaceae) has been reported as a natural host plant of Erwinia amylovora (EPPO A2 quarantine pest) for the first time in Louisiana (US). Twig and branch death was observed in an experimental plantation on 6 plants of R. indica cv. Olivia in May 1998. R. indica was previously reported only as an experimental host (although R. umbellata is a natural host). In the Louisiana plantation, among 9 cultivars of R. indica, only cv. Olivia was infected with fireblight and all 6 plants died by late summer.
