Details on Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis in Italy
At the end of February 1997, symptoms of Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis (EPPO A2 quarantine pest) were observed on tomato cultivated in an unheated greenhouse of a nursery in the province of Latina (Lazio region, central Italy). The disease was observed two months after sowing and its incidence was high (15-20 % of the plants). The high temperatures prevailing inside the glasshouse (about 25-30 °C) and the presence of the bacterium in the seeds are thought to be factors which caused the outbreak.
