Tilletia controversa is not present in Alberta (CA)
The Plant Protection authorities of Canada have recently informed the EPPO Secretariat that Alberta has been erroneously added to the list of Canadian provinces in which Tilletia controversa (EPPO A2 quarantine pest) occurs, as it appears in Quarantine Pests for Europe (2nd edition). Surveys conducted between 1975-1992 failed to detect this fungus (Gaudet ; Puchalski, 1989). In addition, the environmental conditions which favour the disease do not occur in the winter wheat production areas of Alberta. The correct distribution of T. controversa in Canada only includes British Columbia and Ontario.
