First report of Bursaphelenchus xylophilus in Oregon (US)
In August and September 1992, wood samples were collected from 7 sawmills in Oregon and California (USA), and tested for Bursaphelenchus xylophilus (EPPO A1 quarantine pest). The nematode was not found in any of the Pseudotsuga menziesii, Sequoia sempervirens or Abies concolor samples, but was recovered from 8 of the 105 samples of Pinus ponderosa from a mill in Oregon. Samples contained an average of 54 nematodes per gram of dry weight. The author noted that this is the first report of B. xylophilus in Oregon.
