Biology of Bactrocera zonata in India
The biology of Bactrocera zonata (EPPO A1 quarantine pest) was studied in India with pupae of fruit flies collected from infested guava fruits (Psidium guajava). In the laboratory at 28 ñ 2ø C and 70% relative humidity, the pre-oviposition, oviposition and post-oviposition periods of B. zonata were 15.2, 14.8 and 28.3 days, respectively. The egg, larval and pupal periods were 2.6, 9.4 and 8.4 days, respectively and the longevity of male and female adults was 44.3 and 58.2 days, respectively. Greatest infestations in the orchards were recorded when the temperature and the relative humidity were 26-30ø C and 70-75%.
