Survival of Stenocarpella maydis
The survival of Stenocarpella maydis (EPPO A2 organism) was investigated in South Africa. The relationship between the maize stubble placement in soil and the survival and pycnidium production by the pathogen were the main objectives of this investigation.
Survival was higher in stubble which remained on the soil surface than in burried stubble. Pycnidial development increased on surface and buried stubble from September onwards, but subsequently decreased on buried stubble. Reisolation and conidium viability of the fungus was higher from surface stubble than from buried stubble.
