Biological control of Pseudomonas solanacearum
According to Japanese scientists, Pseudomonas solanacearum (EPPO A1 list) can be successfully controlled by preinoculation of tobacco plants with an avirulent P. solanacearum strain and its bacteriophage.
Tobacco plants were preinoculated with an avirulent strain and were treated with a bacteriophage containing culture filtrate immediately after transplantation. The inoculation with a virulent strain of P. solanacearum was carried out four days after the bacteriophage treatment.
The plants were significantly protected by the treatment of the avirulent strain and its bacteriophage.
