Distribution of citrus tristeza closterovirus in Neareastern Countries
Report RAB/86/018 of UNDP/FAO on 'Fruit Crop Sanitation in the Mediterranean and Near East Region - Status and Requirements' provides details of the distribution of citrus tristeza closterovirus (EPPO A2 list) in 13 Neareastern countries:
Albania - not recorded, but only very limited surveys done
Algeria - recorded in 1950s on Meyer lemon, no spread, a few infected trees may remain
Cyprus - recorded in 1950s on Meyer lemon and Cecily grapefruit, destroyed; found in 4 out of·62 citrus cultlvars in 1960s, eliminated; (little spread; present situation
uncertain
Egypt - present on a few trees of imported cultivars, not spreading
Iraq - not recorded
Jordan - suspected in areas adjoining Israel
Libya - absent; suspected infections found in 1970s probably severe attacks of Spiroplasma citri
Morocco - found on Meyer lemon in 1960s; eradication of Meyer lemon obligatory; a few infected trees may remain
Syria - not recorded
Tunisia - not currently recorded; infection of Meyer (lemon in 1950s, since eradicated
Turkey - locally on satsuma grafted on Poncirus trifollata in western area; no spread
Yemen Arab Republic - not recorded
Yemen PDR - suspected
