A new powdery mildew disease of tomato
Since 1986, powdery mildew has been found on glasshouse tomatoes in the Netherlands and several other EPPO countries (Belgium, Denmark, Federal Republic of Germany, United Kingdom). The pathogen has till now only been identified as Oidium sp. Although the polyphagous Erysiphe cichoracearum has occasionally been recorded on tomato, it tends to occur late in the season and cause little damage, whereas the Oidium sp. occurs relatively early and is more damaging. Various fungicides have been tested and found effective. - bitertanol, bupirimate, fenarimol (may be phytotoxic), pyrazophos, tolylfluanid (less curative action), triforine.
