Non-occurrence of Globodera rostochiensis in Israel
Globodera rostochiensis was found in Israel in 1954 and in 1965.The nematode was detected only in a small and defined area in the Sharon region, in light soils where potatoes are grown in the winter. It was never reported from any other region. After detection, eradication was carried out by soil fumigation
(with D-D or ethylene dibromide) and no potatoes were grown in the affected plots. Eradication was carried out by the Department of Plant Protection, in collaboration with the Extension Service of the Ministry. The Department continued, during the following years, to monitor for the nematode by carrying out soil tests in the Sharon region and throughout the whole country. None of these samples, nor any other tested in the laboratory of the Department, have ever been found to contain cysts of this nematode.
On the basis of the above information, Israel is declared free from this pest. It should be noted that the distribution map in EPPO Data Sheet n°125 (Globodera rostochiensis) still has this pest indicated for Israel. In line with the above; this version should be considered out-of-date. In parallel, it may be noted that·G. pallida has never been reported from Israel.
