Fireblight in Norway
Localized outbreaks of Erwinia amylovora occurred in August 1986 in the region of Stavanger (NO) on species of Cotoneaster (C. bullatus, C. horizontalis, C. divericatus, C. salicifolius and C. lucidus). Climatic conditions appeared to be particularly favourable for these outbreaks. The disease did not occur on either Malus, Pyrus or Crataegus.
The bacterium was positively identified. An information and eradication campaign was set up and affected plants were destroyed.
In order to ensure freedom from the disease, an inspection programme has been set up.
