Comments
The taxonomic article of Simmons equates US isolates from California, Maryland and Michigan with Far Eastern isolates under the new name Alternaria gaisen. However, it was not clear whether these isolates are necessarily pathogenic to Japanese pear. This author (Simmons) has subsequently made it clear that his article has been misinterpreted. The so-called records of Alternaria gaisen in USA are all erroneous.
