The sweet potato weevil was present only in some parts of Southwestern Islands and Ogasawara Islands until October 2022 when it was found in Hamamatsu city (Shizuoka prefecture). Control measures have been implemented in this area (prohibition to grow host plants, restrictions on the movement of host plants and surveys).
