Comments
B. papayae was originally confined to the Torres Straits Islands in Queensland. Then found in wider Cairns region, leading to establishment of a 70000 km2 quarantine area. However, it was declared eradicated on 1999-04-30 after 20 months with no detection.

EPPO Reporting Service (1999/098) : B. philippinensis was first found in suburban Darwin (Northern Territory) in 1997-11. A 50 km quarantine area was established. Declared eradicated on 1999-05-31 after no detection in 17 months.

EPPO Reporting Service (2014/188) : B. papayae and B. philippinensis are synonyms of B. dorsalis.

From NPPO (IPPC, 2021-08): due to the proximity of Papua New Guinea (where the pest occurs), transient incursions are occasionally detected in Torres Strait islands. A permanent network of fruit fly monitoring is maintained in all these islands and eradication measures are immediately implemented following any detection of B. dorsalis (or any other exotic fruit fly).
