According to Bellis et al. (2005), the insect collection of the Natural History Museum of London contained specimens of D. citri which had been collected from Northern Territory in 1915. Surveys were conducted in 2002 in the locality of the 1915 collections to determine if the infestation had persisted. No D. citri could be found (Liberibacter asiaticus was not detected either). It is presumed that D. citri was eradicated fortuitously by the removal of all citrus plants during an eradication programme against citrus canker which had taken place in that area from 1916 until 1922.
