EPPO Reporting Service (2008/071) : first reported in 2005 in Apulia on Pinus halepensis and P. pinea in urban parks and gardens. In the 1980s, there had been an unconfirmed report of pitch canker in Italy (a single isolated report, in seeds of Pinus pinaster which might have been the result of a test on imported seeds), but the publication by Carlucci et al. (2007) is the first published and confirmed record of G. circinata in Italy.
EPPO Reporting Service (2009/052) : the 2 sites where G. circinata had been found in 2005 were subsequently used for construction. Surveys confirmed the absence of G. circinata which is now considered eradicated from Puglia and Italy.
Official surveys conducted accross Italy in 2009 and 2010 confirmed the absence of G. circinata.
