In 2016, Australian mite specialists confirmed the absence of M. tanajoa in Australia to the NPPO. The database previously included a record for Australia, dated 1992, but without any references. In the absence of any substantiating sources and considering the official declaration of absence made by the Australian NPPO, this old record is now considered to be erroneous.
