Potexvirus pepini(PEPMV0)
Distribution details in Italy (Sicilia)
First recorded in: 2005
From CABI Disease map 856 (2015): Present, restricted distribution
EPPO Reporting Service (2007/080) : on glasshouse tomatoes in Ragusa province (Sicilia).
According to the NPPO: official surveys carried out in 2009 detected PePMV in tomato fruit production in Sicilia (5 outbreaks) and Sardegna (1 outbreak). Confirmed by Tiberini et al. (2010).
From Davino et al. (2017): the first outbraek found in 2005 was promptly eradicated but since 2008, other outbreaks have been recorded in Sicily and eradication is no longer considered feasible. PepMV occurs in all provinces and has become one of the most destructive pathogen of greenhouse tomato crops in Sicily.
