EPPO Reporting Service (2014/002) : widespread branch dieback and mortality of Juglans nigra has been occurring in Western USA since the mid-1990s. In 2008, this mortality was determined to be the result of a combination of 2 pests: Geosmithia morbida and its insect vector (Pityophthorus juglandis). P. juglandis is thought to originate from Southwestern USA (where it was considered as a minor pest of Juglans major). It is suspected that its spread towards the Eastern part of the USA took place rather recently (i.e. during the last 20 years).
