First confirmed in 1965, PPV rapidly spread in England. By the 1980s the virus was established in the main plum-growing areas (e.g. Kent, West-Midlands-Welsh borders). Isolated records have been made in Wales (on sites near England). PPV has never found in Scotland and Northern Ireland. So far, only PPV-D has been detected.
