Comments
R. solanacearum has occasionally been found: one old record (1960) around Roma, several findings in 1995 on potato crops grown in Veneto and Emilia-Romagna from imported Dutch seed potatoes, two outbreaks in glasshouse tomatoes in Sardegna (2007 & 2009). Eradication and containment measures were taken. At present, the bacterium is no longer detected and considered eradicated.

EPPO Reporting Service (97/111): all 1996 field surveys gave negative results, including those in Veneto and Emilia-Romagna.

EPPO Reporting Service (2000/077) : not seen in 1999.

EPPO Reporting Service (2000/113) : official confirmation that all surveys over the period 1996/2000 have given negative results. Status can be considered to be "Absent: pest no longer present (confirmed by survey)".

EPPO Reporting Service (2010/101) : outbreaks detected in glasshouse tomatoes in Sardegna in 2007 and again in 2009. According to the NPPO (January 2010) national surveys on potato production did not detect R. solanacearum, but no update was given on the earlier cases found on tomatoes (NPPO, 2010-01).

EPPO Reporting Service (2011/003) : the NPPO of Italy considers that the outbreaks on tomato in Sardegna have been successfully eradicated .

From NPPO (2011): not detected during the official survey conducted in 2010.
