From country itself (1992): reported in 1933 (see reference). This publication does not mention the diagnostic methods used nor the technical conditions of the diagnosis (whether based only on symptoms or on an analysis of fungal structures). A second publication from 1955 (see reference) mentions a sporadic presence but again does not mention diagnostic methods. In 1981, Koch de Brotos et al. stated that this pest had not been found since 1955; potato cultivation having continued in Uruguay since that year, the fungus easily surviving in the soil for many years, and the climatic conditions of Uruguay being favourable to the pest (high humidity and rainfall), it is difficult to assume that the fungus has simply spontaneously disappeared. Between 1980 and 1986 a national prevention campain against Pseudomonas solanacearum was undertaken and commercial potato crops were thoroughly inspected; S. endobioticum was never found. From 1988 onwards, the Plant Protection services have been analysing the seed potato consignments from the national certification programme and have not found the pest. Uruguay started exporting potatoes in 1991 and the fungus was neither found in 1991 nor in 1992 in exported consignments. All cultivars were tested, whether resistant or not. S. endobioticum has therefore been classified as an A1 pest and declared never to occur.
