Symptoms were first observed in 2015 in an experimental plantation of eucalyptus hybrids (E. camaldulensis x E. viminalis; E. camaldulensis x E. bicostata) in Roma. The identity of the fungus was confirmed in 2019. So far, no other reports of Teratosphaeria stem canker from other regions of Italy.
