Reporting Service 521/03 of 1992-03: the regulatory status of verticillium wilt of hop in the UK has recently changed, to reflect the fact that continuous variation in aggressiveness is now recognized, rather than division into two distinct groups of strains - "progressive" and "fluctuating", the former restricted to south-east England and the latter occurring also in the West Midlands. Eradication measures and restrictions on cultivar use have been withdrawn, but regulations on healthy planting material and on movement of used hop poles and picking machinery are maintained.
From Radišek et al. (2006): verticillium wilt was first recorded in England in 1924. Severe outbreaks appeared in 1933. Both mild and lethal types of isolates have been reported in England.
