Comments
From Haack (2006): first specimens were collected from Delonix regia in 2002 in Florida.

The species found in California in 2003 (in association with serious damage on several tree species, including avocado) is morphologically indistinguishable from E. fornicatus but molecular data suggests that it is a distinct species. American publications refer to it as the 'Polyphagous shot hole borer' (to distinguish it from 'Tea shot hole borer').
