First found in 2003 in Whitter Narrows (Los Angeles county) on Robinia pseudoacacia and then on several other tree species (including avocado) and in the counties of Orange, San Diego and San Bernadino. The species found is morphologically indistinguishable from E. fornicatus but molecular data suggests that it is a distinct species. In addition, the population found in San Diego differs from the other ones found in California.
