Introduced in Mediterranean region, Japan, USA (southern), Mexico, Central America, Caribbean, South America (northwest, to Bolivia and eastern Brazil), New Zealand. A widespread weed. Var. sicula (q.v.) is unevenly distributed in the southern part of the Euromediterranean region
