Mediterranean, Central Europe to Black Sea, Caucasus, Russia, Siberia, Central Asia (Kazakhstan), Western Asia (Iran). Recent French authors have given other names to forms of A. paniculatum occurring in France (e.g. A. longispathum), and suggest that the true A. paniculatum only occurs in non-European Russia. This view is not (yet?) accepted in other European countries
