Overview Code created in: 2004-04-29
- EPPO Code: AMABL
- Preferred name: Amaranthus blitoides
- Authority: Watson
USA (central). Introduced in Euromediterranean region, Siberia, Russian Far East, Central Asia, Western Asia (Irak, Iran), Indochina (Myanmar), China (northern), Japan, South Africa, Canada and USA, Mexico, South America (Argentina). In the past, A. blitoides in North America was often misnamed A. graecizans, on the supposition that this Mediterranean species had been widely introduced. In fact, it was never more than a rare casual. This confusion also exists in Europe, where the native A. graecizans does co-exist with introduced A. blitoides.
