Notes

Central and South America. Introduced in Euromediterranean region, Siberia, Central Asia, Western Asia, Himalayas, India, Indochina (Vietnam), China, Japan, Korea, most of Africa, Canada, USA, Caribbean (Cuba), Colombia to Guyanas, New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand. Formerly cultivated as the leaf vegetable blite (subsp. oleraceus, also known as A. lividus).  Subsp.  polygonoides (q.v.) is a mainly tropical form. The distinction between these forms, and their origin and history, remains rather unclear
