Asclepias syriaca(ASCSY)
Overview Code created in: 2002-04-10
- EPPO Code: ASCSY
- Preferred name: Asclepias syriaca
- Authority: Linnaeus
Central North America (from Saskatchewan to Nova Scotia to Georgia to Texas to North Dakota). Despite its Latin name, and the common names derived from it, A. syriaca is from North America, not from Syria. Before Linnaeus, Cornut gave the American plant he described the same name as a plant from Syria, and Linnaeus followed. Cultivated as an ornamental, and introduced into European countries from France to Bulgaria and Russia (potentially invasive)
