Known to occur only in the eastern and midwestern states of the USA and in Texas. The presence of C. fagacearum was first documented in Wisconsin in 1942. It is possible that it is exotic to the USA, with possible origins in Central or South America, or Mexico (Juzwik et al., 2011).
