Archips occidentalis(CHONOC)
Overview Code created in: 2014-09-22
- EPPO Code: CHONOC
- Preferred name: Archips occidentalis
- Authority: (Walsingham)
This African species also named Choristoneura occidentalis (Walsingham) is not to be confused with the Nearctic Choristoneura occidentalis Freeman (Western spruce budworm). Molecular studies (Fagua et al., 2019) excluded if from the genus Choristoneura, and considered that its closest relatives were in the genus Cacoecimorpha. For the moment, this species remains unplaced in the Archipini tribe. For convenience, the EPPO Secretariat has temporarily moved it back to the genus 'Archips' and removed 'Choristoneura occidentalis (Walsingham)' from the list of synonyms to avoid confusion in the database (2021-10).
