Notes

A cultivated plant of the Mediterranean region, probably derived from C. spinosa subsp. rupestris. Its flower buds (capers) are used as a culinary flavouring. Introduced in other parts of the world (tropical Africa, Australia). Capers are also harvested from other, wild-growing, Capparis spp., occurring over a wider geographical range.
