In Italy, Erwinia amylovora has been reported in Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Lombardia, Piemonte, Puglia, Sicilia, Toscana, Trentino-Alto-Adige, Veneto, under official control.

EPPO Reporting Service 511/04 and 512/06 of 1991-01-06: only in Puglia since 1990. Under eradication.

Reporting Service 523/04 of 1992-05: national monitoring network established.

Reporting Service 529/10 of 1992-11: a single outbreak reported in a pear orchard in Sicilia.

EPPO Reporting Service (1993/108) : situation stable in Puglia.

EPPO Reporting Service (1995/114) : two foci found in 1994-10 in Emilia-Romagna.

EPPO Reporting Service (1998/205) : number of foci in Emilia-Romagna has increased exponentially over the years (5 in 1994, 6 in 1995, 30 in 1996, 721 in 1997). Mostly on pear but a few on ornamentals.

EPPO Reporting Service (1999/095) : still many foci in Emilia-Romagna, though conditions less favourable. 15 foci in Lombardia (11 in 1997), new ones being found in provines of Mantova and Bergamo. First found in Veneto in 1997, still present in 1998 (south of the region - Rovigo, Bassa Padovana, Basso Veronese)

EPPO Reporting Service (2000/022) : observed for the first time in Alto-Adige region in 1999, near the Brenner pass, on pear.

EPPO Reporting Service (2000/077) : no major progression in 1999, since climatic conditions were less favorable than in 1998 and the disease was contained. Reported in Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Lombardia, Veneto and Alto-Adige

EPPO Reporting Service (2004/118) : found in Piemonte in 2003.

EPPO Reporting Service (2006/025) : found in a new area of Trento province (Trentino-Alto Adige region).

EPPO Reporting Service (2010/039) : in 2009, detected in a few plants (Crataegus, Pyrus) in Lombardia - also detected in Piemonte on 2 adjoining plants of Cotoneaster in the botanical garden of Villa Taranto. All infected plants were destroyed.

In surveys conducted in 2009, outbreaks were reported in Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lombardia, Piemonte and Veneto.

EPPO Reporting Service (2011/108) : detected in a few plants in Lombardia and Piemonte in 2010, under eradication.
