In 2019, it was proposed to consider Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense Tropical race 4 as a distinct species called Fusarium odoratissimum (Maryani et al., 2019). However, this proposal has been questionned by Torres-Bedoya et al. (2021) who considered that this change was premature and not sufficiently substantiated. In addition, it was noted that F. odoratissimum is not a synonym of Foc TR4 as at least 1 isolate does not belong to Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (but to another forma specialis).
