Quercus ithaburensis subsp. macrolepis(QUEML)
Overview Code created in: 2002-02-11
- EPPO Code: QUEML
- Preferred name: Quercus ithaburensis subsp. macrolepis
- Authority: (Kotschy) Hedge & Yaltirik
Southern Italy, to Balkans, Turkey. Formerly planted and used for tanning, so that its natural distribution is uncertain. The name \"valonia\" is an old Italian word for dried acorn cups used for tanning, and has no connection with Wallonia in Belgium (though this has been mistakenly supposed by some authors).
