Intercepted only, in 1988 in imported citrus plants. The identification was based on serological tests (ISEM and ELISA). Has not otherwise occurred in PT.

EPPO Reporting Service (1995/07) : the presence of the vector Toxoptera citricida having been recorded in Madeira, there was a possibility that citrus tristeza closterovirus might have been introduced also. Extensive testing has given negative results.

EPPO Reporting Service (1995/95) : two foci in the Algarve, and a few infected plants in Madeira. Preliminary indications suggest that eradication was successful.

A survey conducted in 1995 covered 420 citrus sites all over the country and 2656 samples serologically tested. The virus was found at 7 sites, and eradication measures were applied.
